Entry in Forres Gazette:
River Findhorn based volunteers from Riverview Park Residents Association are clearing a once popular path for residents and visitors. Volunteers at a local caravan park have cleared an overgrown path to open up a riverside walk for residents and visitors.

Paul Corrin, John Petch, Tom Patterson, James Birse and Bill Gray from Riverview Park Residents Association (RPRA) have spent every Thursday afternoon for the last few months carrying out the work near the River Findhorn following a request from fellow member, Dianne Hill.  RPRA spokeswoman Janet Reid confirmed they have made a “big difference”.

She said: “It’s now a relatively easy walk which gives anglers better access to the river and walkers an off-road path for dogs and children. You can spot wildlife including salmon, heron, osprey and even otters on a good day.

“Two lads were down here recently who said they hadn’t used it in years. There’s a sign on it for Forres Footpaths Trust. It’ll become a popular walk again now it’s cleared!”

RPRA was set up in 2004 to foster good public relations and encourage social activities in the community. It can also act as a pressure group for issues that may affect residents. Residents are welcome to association meetings at the start of each month by invitation or request. The group produces a monthly newsletter focused on life in the park, featuring current issues and upcoming events, as well as advertising local trades and services.
Resident volunteers carry out small jobs like weeding, pruning trees, planting flowers, etc around the site. They also help elderly and less able residents with repairs, gardening and other activities.

“The pathways project was started by Dianne,” explained Janet. “She was out for a walk but had to turn back because it was so overgrown. She asked the residents association if we could do something about it.

“There have been varying numbers of helpers but a hardcore of four have done the majority of the work, despite them being in their 70's!

“They use mainly hand tools but have strimmers, a chainsaw and a brush cutter for the difficult bits.”

Volunteer Paul Corrin confirmed the work party is around a quarter of the way through the job.

He said: “We’re widening and levelling the path to make it safer to walk and cycle on. We would like to make it accessible for all. We’re also cutting a lot of overgrowth back.

“The route stretches along to the Findhorn Bridge - it’s always existed but had fallen out of use.

“It’s needed more than ever now as the Mundole road has become so busy that’s it’s no longer safe to walk along, especially when walking a dog or young children. The path offers a more scenic way!”

Hello everyone

I’ve attached below, the link to the Parliamentary Debate on Park Homes that took place this afternoon.
The debate was productive and well informed, SCOPHRA had many mentions during the debate and there are already follow up meetings organised to take Park Home Issues forward.

Once you’ve watched the link, it would be interesting to hear your comments but also, if your MSP was one of the ones who spoke on our behalf, can I urge you to consider writing to them and thanking them for their support?

We on the Executive Committee are feeling optimistic that we have been heard and hopefully this will result in some positive action.

RA Chair/Secretaries – Please forward this to your members to allow them to see the work that has been done on their behalf and to thank them for their support.

Hopefully this is the start of ensuring that we as a community have more protection through enforcement and legislation.

Kind regards

SCOPHRA Update:

Scottish Parliament Debate

As everyone should know by now, we have secured a Parliamentary Debate on Park Homes next Thursday 27th February.

Gordon Morrison (SCOPHRA Chair) has prepared briefing and information packs for MSPs and following on from this, a meeting room has been booked and he has been invited to meet with MSPs prior to the debate.

This is so exciting because he will be able to put forward in person, the issues and concerns that we would like them to focus on during the debate.

Gordon and Murdo are also in talks with media, however, it's not clear right now whether conversations will take place on the day with them or following on from the debate, but there is clear interest.

Coverage will be live on Scottish Parliament TV on Thursday, the main link is below. Please try to watch if you are able to. We have some members who will join Gordon in the gallery on the day.

AGM Residents Association Committee Vote:
Our Residents Association Annual General Meeting will be held on Friday 27th September 2024.
The present Association Committee have decided that nominations and voting for the 2024-2025 Association Committee will be carried out by a paper vote, the same as last year as we feel the Hub will not be able to accommodate a fully attended AGM. We feel this is the fairest way as there are still some residents across Riverview who are reluctant to meet in groups, there are others who simply can’t attend due to being housebound, however they are still entitled to a vote.

The voting procedure will be as follows…..
Within the forthcoming Newsletter, residents will receive a form asking for Nominees. Anyone wishing to be nominated as a Residents Association Committee Member, please fill in the form, giving your details and stating which position(s) you want to be nominated for (tick boxes) and return to our Secretary Bill Gray at 1 Grosvenor Park by Week Ending 8th September 2024.
We hope some of our newer Residents to Riverview will be interested in taking up a role in the Residents Association Committee….. new faces with new ideas.

Once we have the nominations registered, we will ask residents to vote for the members they want to represent them on the Association Committee for the year 2024 – 2025. It’s your vote that really matters so

don’t lose it !!!
